Scarecrow, the eagerly awaited David McLay Kidd design at Gamble Sands Resort in Brewster, Washington, is set to open its doors to the public on Friday, August 1st, inviting everyone to experience its inspired landscape.
The Scarecrow is an exciting addition to the Gamble Sands Resort, showcasing its second 18-hole layout that rivals the beauty and enjoyment of the original Gamble Sands Course, which debuted in 2014 and was also designed by DMK.

This new course is thoughtfully constructed on 300 acres of rolling terrain that was once home to cornfields, now providing breathtaking views of the Columbia River Valley and the nearby apple and cherry orchards owned by the Gebbers family, the proud owners of Gamble Sands.
While the cornfields have disappeared, the Scarecrow remains a symbol of the land’s transformation, guarding its fertile soil in this innovative reimagining.
Designed by McLay Kidd and design associate Nick Schaan, Scarecrow offers a fresh golfing experience, presenting a challenging yet distinct counterpart to the acclaimed Gamble Sands Course.
The course plays to a par of 71, stretches over 6,900 yards, and features traditional fine fescue turf, delivering firm and fast playing surfaces.
Golfers will find opportunities for creativity throughout their round, thanks to the clever incorporation of speed slots, boomerangs, angles, and slopes.
The course includes an enticing variety of reachable par 5s, five unique par 3s, and demanding par 4s, ensuring an unforgettable golfing journey.

In June, Gamble Sands expanded its offerings by opening 40 new double-king golf-view rooms at The Inn at Gamble Sands, raising the total to 77 luxury accommodations.
Each room is designed for comfort, featuring
- walk-in showers,
- large-screen televisions,
- mini-fridges,
- coffee makers, and
- private patios.
Guests staying in the new golf-view rooms will soon have access to a new adjacent putting green, perfect for pre- or post-round practice.
Additionally, Gamble Sands has introduced a convenient on-site shuttle service to enhance guest experiences, allowing easy travel between The Inn, the clubhouse, the F&B complex, the golf courses, and the Cascades Putting Course.
