Puerto Rico is one of the key golf tourism destinations (market share: 17%) of the Caribbean region. Only the Dominican Republic is more popular than Puerto Rico. What is not so rosy in Puerto Rico is the economy. Nothing explains this better than the fact that the island is unable to pay back $72 billion in public debt. Some sources think that the country’s tourism industry is losing out to rival Caribbean islands. The annual number of tourists is stagnating around 3.2 million.
So it seems like Troon has won a new assignment from the Rio Mar Country Club (part of the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa) not in the best period of the island. In addition to managing the golf operations at Rio Mar, Troon will also oversee operations at its tennis facility, which boasts eleven Har-Tru courts and two Laykold hard courts.
