Indian golf is often overlooked in discussions surrounding the sport, particularly in relation to its more prestigious tournaments.
However, it is noteworthy that approximately 200,000 individuals in India actively participate in golf.
Additionally, mention should be made of the Hero Indian Open, a tournament on the DP World Tour since 2018, and the International Series India, presented by DLF— a LIV Golf-backed series.

This October, at the historic Delhi Golf Club, from October 16 to 19, marks the arrival of the DP World India Championship, a groundbreaking new tournament with an incredible $4 million prize fund—the largest ever for a DP World Tour event in India.
The upcoming tournament marks the exciting return of the Tour to the esteemed Delhi Golf Club, which last hosted this event in 2016.
The Lodhi Championship Course, originally established in the 1930s, holds historical significance as the location of the inaugural Indian Open in 1964.
The course has seen thoughtful designs, first by Peter Thomson in 1977 and later enhanced by Gary Player Design in 2019, ensuring it remains a premier golfing destination.
In its role as the title partner of the Tour since 2022, DP World is demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing golf and promoting sports engagement in India.
This new tournament is an integral part of their broader initiatives, which include collaborations with the Delhi Capitals and various grassroots efforts, such as the “Second Life” container initiative and the “Balls for Birdies” campaign.
These initiatives collectively aim to foster a vibrant sporting culture and inspire the next generation of golfers.
