Rockliffe Hall raises the bar with impressive golf investment

By: September 24, 2025

Rockliffe Hall, the award-winning five-star resort hotel in North East England, is embarking on a transformational journey by investing millions in its golf facilities.

This isn’t just typical golf business news; it’s a bold move driven by independent data from 59Club visits and invaluable feedback from members and golfers, ensuring that the vision aligns with the community’s desires.

Rockliffe Hall‘s investments in 2025 & 2026

This investment is an integral part of Rockliffe Hall’s ambitious renovation plans, positioning the resort hotel as a leading destination in the region.

The focus is on enhancing world-class gastronomy and elevating guest experiences to new heights.

The project has already introduced a new TrackMan Range and Golf Academy.

Ongoing initiatives include a comprehensive bunker renovation and the addition of 50 new machines for the golf facilities. It is an increase in the fleet from 42 Toro machines, including 2 Ventrac 4520 Tracktors.

The expansion of our fleet from 42 machines to 50 will significantly enhance the greenkeeping team’s ability to undertake additional renovation projects throughout the golf course.

This upgrade will facilitate the effective management of over 90 acres of long rough, improve the care of reeds and watercourses, and support additional primary and secondary drainage efforts.

Moreover, it will enable them to implement sand banding, overseed fairways, and conduct thorough tree management, all of which contribute to the overall health and aesthetics of the course.

The golf team is also undertaking a two-phase bunker renovation project from August 2025 to December 2026.

All existing sand will be removed, and the bunkers will be reshaped, reducing their size from 10,000 m² to 6,000 m².

An industry-leading Profusion Blinder will be installed, and premium-quality China Clay sand will be added.

Recent updates at the driving range feature the installation of TrackMan’s advanced technology in all 8 golf driving bays.

This innovation combines high-performance tracking with an engaging, data-rich experience that caters to players of all skill levels.

Customer feedback framework for future investments

I have constructed a framework designed to leverage customer feedback to guide future investments in your golf club.

Collect Feedback Systematically
  • Channels: surveys, interviews, social media, online reviews, customer service interactions.
  • Timing: after purchase, during use, or at renewal/cancellation points.
  • Tools: CRM systems, survey platforms, or analytics dashboards.
Organize & Categorize Insights
  • Group feedback into themes such as product quality, service, pricing, convenience, innovation, and customer experience.
  • Tag feedback as positive, negative, or suggestions to spot patterns.
Prioritize Based on Impact

Look at:

  • Frequency (how often an issue is raised).
  • Severity (how much it affects customer satisfaction or loyalty).
  • Revenue potential (which improvements could increase sales or retention).

  • If many customers request a feature, consider investing in R&D.
  • If service complaints are high, invest in training or staffing.
  • If customers love a particular product/service, invest in expanding or marketing it.
Engage Customers in the Process
  • Involve customers in beta testing, focus groups, or advisory panels.
  • Share how their input influenced decisions (builds loyalty and trust).
Measure ROI of Investments

After implementing changes, track:

  • Customer satisfaction scores (NPS, CSAT).
  • Retention & repeat business.
  • Revenue growth linked to improvements.

Continue collecting feedback from your guests and members to further refine your approach. Treat it as an ongoing cycle, not a one-time action.

It’s essential to acknowledge that customers are interested in understanding how their feedback and data are utilized, who has access to it, and the impact it has on the improvements made.

With increasing concerns regarding AI and data privacy, golf clubs have a valuable opportunity to implement a transparent, ethical, and compliant strategy.

This approach not only builds trust but also enhances customer relationships and fosters a more engaged community.
