What results did the Liechtenstein Golf Association achieve in 2024?

Liechtenstein is likely one of the smallest golf nations, boasting around 1,444 registered golfers. The country’s total population is 39,870. The country takes pride in its exceptionally high female golf participation rate of 37%!

It was precisely due to their small size that I became curious about how seriously they took themselves.

The General Assembly of the Liechtenstein Golf Association (1500+ members) took place at the Café of the Art Museum, attracting 134 members.

Liechtenstein Golf Association – Achievements in 2024

  • Liechtenstein Golf Association proudly hosted the European Championships, specifically the European Team Shield Championships (ETSC), from July 31 to August 3 at its home course, Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club.
  • They were guests at the Engadine Golf Club in Samedan, the home of Swiss golf, in June.
  • Organized the fourth charity golf tournament, ‘Denksch Pink,’ in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Liechtenstein.
  • As part of Olympic Day, they tried to introduce enthusiastic schoolchildren to the world of golf.
  • The tournament that drew the most significant number of participants was the Fürsten Golf Cup in 2024, where over 200 golfers gathered at the Bad Ragaz Golf Club on August 17.
  • The after-work tournament at Heidiland Golf Club was held for the first time in 2024 and proved to be an immediate hit.

The winners of the Season Matchplay were celebrated during the general assembly.

Anna Eggenberger, a Liechtenstein Golf Association board member, and women’s national team captain triumphed in the singles competition.

Patrick Bösch and Bernhard Riedelsperger clinched the doubles (foursome) title. The medals from the national championship had already been awarded on August 25th.

2025: Even more tournaments and a driving range

During the General Assembly, Thomas Schaber, the Secretary-General and Board of Directors member overseeing tournament operations, unveiled the exciting 2025 program, announcing, “The Handicap Rally is expanding to six tournaments this year!

The series kicks off on April 26 at Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club. It is followed by the 20th edition of the tournament in Ravensburg on May 24, which will feature a special anniversary celebration.

The rally continues with events on

  • June 14 in Weissenburg,
  • June 21 in Rankweil,
  • July 5 at Engadin Golf in Samedan and
  • July 26 in Lenzerheide.
  • On August 16, golf enthusiasts can look forward to the Fürsten Golf Cup in Bad Ragaz.

The fifth edition of the “Denksch Pink” charity tournament will be held on June 28 at Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club.

Liechtenstein Golf Association summarizing 2024 results

The highlight events “inland” include the Liechtenstein Open, scheduled for August 22 to 24 and played over 54 holes.

The National Championship on August 23/24 will be contested over two rounds, both of which will take place on the home course in Gams-Werdenberg Golf Club.

The Alpin Golf Malbun tournament will return on August 21, the only tournament held within Liechtenstein’s borders.

Finally, the 2025 Season Matchplay will kick off at the end of April, featuring both “Individual” and “Team/Foursome” categories.

The national teams, headed by board members and national captains Anna Eggenberger and Sebastian Schredt, will be competing in the European Team Shield Championships in Bulgaria from July 30 to August 2.

The tournament will take place at Pravets Golf Club.

Liechtenstein Golf Association President Peter Tinner also announced that the association would like to lease the driving range in Schaan. Funds have been reserved in the 2025 budget for the lease and operation of the driving range.
