Rory McIlroy’s Nike Golf endorsement is in danger

By: August 7, 2013

Time to time, I ask myself, whether Rory McIlroy could earn more money by winning tournaments and championships with his previous Titleist golf clubs or as it is today, when we see him struggling on the green. Last year he lost endorsement of Titleist, Footjoy, Jumeirah, Oakley and Audemars Piguet

The Nike Golf deal is about $250 million over 10 years. In reality, the deal is expected to be payout $10-15 million over five years depending on bonuses for wins and world rankings. If Rory McIlroy continues his poor performance he can easily lose the Nike Golf endorsement. If this happens then other 3 endorsements (Omega, Bose and Santander) will not be enough. Not to forget his legal dispute with Oakley.

As of June 2013, Rory McIlroy earned $29.6 million ($16M from endorsements).

How would it sound that Rory McIlroy would go back with "pulled back tail" to Titleist?

Let's hope that Rory McIlroy will win the battle for the 2013 BMW Masters title in October at Lake Malaren Golf Course in Shanghai.
