This weekend, we will witness an exhilarating event that will likely shake up the Ladies European Tour: The Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF in Tampa. This tournament is a prelude to the highly anticipated Solheim Cup of 2024.
2024 marks the 46th season of golf tournaments since the Ladies European Tour was founded in November 1978. This year’s schedule includes 31 events in 20 different countries and a prize fund of at least €34 million.
It will be the first prestigious tournament to be held in Tampa. The Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater will host the event.
Joe Lee originally designed the club’s golf course. Recently, Kip Schulties redesigned it: a par 71, 18-hole Championship Golf Course, 7,215 yards.
The tournament boasts an impressive lineup of 84 competitors, including 39 LET champions, nine LPGA victors, and three Major titleholders.
The star golfers will also compete in the tournament’s team component, where each group of four will be enhanced by the addition of an amateur player, all contributing to the team’s overall score.
Team USA star Lexi Thompson, along with her Solheim Cup 2023 teammate Megan Khang and newly announced assistant captain Brittany Lincicome, will battle Team Europe’s shining lights, Charley Hull and Carlota Ciganda, this time for the total $1 million prize fund split across the team and individual events.
Aramco team Series Presented by PIF—Tampa is one of the five team events on the LET, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on Friday, March 8. Future stops span the globe, including destinations in Asia, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.
Multi-screen & omnichannel experiences are gaining momentum
Women’s golf tournament organizers must embrace the change in fan’s viewing experience. Golf fans (too) now stream live sports through digital platforms.
People are still interested in non-event broadcasts, such as highlights, recap videos, and more.
It is imperative to note that viewership is no longer restricted to a single screen but has evolved into a multi-screen experience. In order to remain competitive and relevant in the current landscape, it is crucial to adopt an approach that accounts for this shift in viewing patterns.
It is also thought-provoking how we merge content and commerce. The arrival of Shoppable Ads in streaming environments brings the omnichannel experience closer to reality.
If we can implement the required changes to achieve multi-screen and omnichannel experiences, the potential big sponsors will also see more business opportunities in leading women’s golf tournaments such as the Ladies European Tour or the LPGA.
By creating a more immersive experience for viewers, these tournaments could offer more business opportunities for sponsors to leverage. Therefore, it is imperative to prioritize the development of such experiences to ensure the growth and success of these events.
