Troon has just announced that Alex Nakajima has been named as the new general manager at Kapalua Golf located on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Nakajima replaces Mike Jones, who spent the last eight-plus years as general manager of Kapalua Golf. Kapalua Golf is considered as Hawaii’s #1 golf club.
Nakajima moves to Kapalua Golf from Princeville Makai Golf Club at the St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai where he served as general manager since 2009. In addition to his GM role at Makai, Nakajima simultaneously worked as the regional director of Hawaii operations for Troon.
Prior to his time at Makai Golf Club, Nakajima was the director of golf asset management for Goldman Sachs Realty in Japan managing $1.2 billion in golf investments.
The Kapalua Golf has got 2 golf courses. The Bay Course was opened in 1975. It is a typical resort golf course (par 72, 6600 yards). The golf course was designed by Arnold Palmer (also The Village Course) and Francis Duane (+ Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore).
The Bay Course is a memorable golf course for Greg Norman where he won for the 1st time on American soil. In the clubhouse of The Bay Course, Troon reopened early this month, The Pineapple Grill Restaurant (previously it was managed by the Cohn Restaurant Group). The new Pineapple Grill menu includes TroonFIT items.
The other golf course of Kapalua Golf is The Plantation Course (designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore; par-73, 7411 yards), the home of the PGA TOUR Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
