How does Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection support women’s golf & inclusivity?

By: February 3, 2023

As an ambassador of Women’s Golf Day, I am always happy to show positive examples of progressive golf clubs and golf resorts.

Last year I was able to report that the Penha Longa Resort (Portugal) has committed to multiple projects as part of the Women in Golf Charter (by The R&A), most notably starting with the facilities at the resort and looking to build upon what they currently offer female members and guests.

Now the good news is that Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection is the first in the Algarve to join this initiative.

Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection: R&A’s Women in Golf Charter

This is significant because women’s golf participation rate in Europe is still very low. In 2021, it was only 26% (Source: The R&A/EGA: European Golf Participation Report, 2021). The highest rate of female golfers in Europe is in Germany: 36%

As part of its commitment, the resort has vowed to continue investing in

  • its overall golf facilities and the availability of ladies’ golf equipment on-site,
  • as well as the creation of female-specific promotions and packages designed to encourage more women and girls to take up the game.

Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection also aims to work closely with the Portuguese Golf Federation, a fellow signatory of the charter, in addition to other organizing bodies such as the Portuguese Senior Ladies Golf Association to

  • promote inclusivity and
  • provide female golfers with direct access to golf courses, coaching academies, and events in the Algarve.

This week, Dom Pedro Hotels & Golf Collection will host the 30th International Portuguese Senior Ladies Golf Competition.

The event welcomes 160 female golfers from many different nationalities to experience the resort’s incredible golf portfolio that features five incredible courses, each showcasing first-rate conditioning and playability.

Set over three days, players are competing in four separate individual categories, as well as a gross team competition, with the action taking place across the

  • Dom Pedro Victoria,
  • Dom Pedro Old Course, and
  • Dom Pedro Pinhal.
