What challenges should the new CEO Of Shura Links anticipate?

By: October 9, 2024

Shura Links –  Curley-Wagner Golf Design: length of 7,500 yards – is Saudi Arabia’s first 18-hole island golf course with holes overlooking the water, marina views and the fairways framed by the Red Sea.

Red Sea Global (wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia), the multi-project developer behind regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea (since 2023) and AMAALA (which will open in 2025), is planning to open the new golf course in 2025.

The Red Sea welcomed its first guests last year, and three of its hotels are now open. Shebara and Desert Rock will welcome their first guests later this year, while Shura Island is on track to welcome guests in 2025.

Half of the course has already been grassed with Platinum TE Paspalum, supplied by the Atlas Turf Arabia turf farm, a joint venture between Golf Saudi and Atlas Turf International.

The remaining portion will also be grassed by December. RSG is working with the OnCourse® platform to ensure sustainability is at the heart of Shura Links.

CEO Of Shura Links Jon Brook

As the opening day draws near, we are gaining a better understanding of the individuals who will comprise the club’s management team.

We already know that Golf Saudi will manage the course and operations.

Red Sea Global has just announced the appointment of Jon Brook as General Manager of Shura Links. I met him on a FAM trip for golf media in person when he was the Director of Golf, Sports, and Residences at Las Colinas Golf & Country Club in 2018.

Before joining Shura Links, Jon held international management positions at some of golf’s most prestigious and luxurious clubs and resorts.

This includes the iconic Wentworth Club, London—one of Europe’s leading golf and leisure facilities. For many years, it has been home to the PGA Championship, the flagship event on the DP World Tour.

He also led golf operations at Velaa Private Island, an exclusive 7-star ultra-luxury resort in the Maldives, and was, latterly, the Director of Golf at Dreamland in Azerbaijan.
