How many winners a golf tournament can have?

By: November 23, 2015

I thought to start this week with a surprising news. The organizers of The European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage (November 14-19, 2015; PGA Catalunya Resort) said that in the tournament’s 40-year history never happened that 3 golfers topped the leaderboard.

Namely, what happened is that the 6-day tournament was won by America’s Daniel Im, Spaniard Adrian Otaegui, and South African Ulrich van den Berg, who all scored 18-under-par (410) to share the top spot.

Just 27 golfers claimed the coveted playing privileges on The European Tour after a field of more than 156 players commenced the week with two rounds on each of the two courses at the PGA Catalunya Resort. Those making the cut proceeded to play two more rounds on the Stadium Course, ranked Spain’s #1 (according to Top100GolfCourses.co.uk).

This was the 8th constructive year that The European Tour Qualifying School returned to the PGA Catalunya Resort. According to my sources, it will return at least two more years, until 2017.
