Do we prefer more personal travel experiences over those provided by large hotel or travel companies? In 2015, more than 40 million people used the home rental service of Airbnb in 190 countries. I don’t think PGA Catalunya Resort will be hurt by the sharing economy since they are targeting the luxury market (and group market?). Nevertheless, I see an interesting effect of the sharing economy on PGA Catalunya Resort’s property rental portfolio.
Thanks to the increased demand (stay-n-play visitors number grew by 30% in the last 2 years) for apartments, PGA Catalunya Resort has expanded its property rental portfolio for golfers wishing to stay on-site. The increased demand can be also explained by the fact that people are expecting to find the right “fit” for travel experiences. The fit relates to personal travel style, the purpose of the travel occasions, the sorts of activities they like to take part in once they get there.
The PGA Catalunya Resort has enhanced its portfolio of rental properties by over 70% to include a larger mix of luxurious family houses, golf-fronted semi-detached villas, as well as exclusive apartments adjacent to the clubhouse, overlooking the 18th green of the critically acclaimed Stadium Course.
David Plarna, CEO of PGA Catalunya Resort said: “By making more guest villas, townhouses and apartments available, we are now in a position to offer more golfers the convenience of luxury stay-and-play holidays, supported by PGA Catalunya Resort’s extensive award-winning facilities.”
Visitors from the Nordic countries made up the largest group of holidaymakers who preferred to rent at the Costa Brava resort in 2015, accounting for 40% of the total occupancy, while 25% were from the UK, followed closely by France with 20%.
At the same time, it is still a question how they will cater Millennials (it will be the dominant consumer group by 2017) who are looking for high-tech & high-touch experience, personalized gourmet experience. Therefore, it would be great if PGA Catalunya Resort could provide a mobile app that would make our holiday more pleasant and personalized.
