I was happy to discover that golf will be part of the 15th European Maccabi Games (29th July – 6th August 2019).
The golf industry veteran, Mark D. Berman of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL was the Overall Golf Chair for the 2019 Games.
The Maccabiah is the world’s largest Jewish athletic competition in the tradition and values of Maccabi. The Maccabiah takes place every four years in Israel.
You can call it as the “Jewish Olympics”. This year, Hungary was the host country of the 15th European Maccabi Games.
Would you believe that the former PGA Tour player Bruce Fleischer (70) participated as well in the Maccabiah in the past?
This is why I thought to follow closely the golf tournament.

The golf tournament of the 15th European Maccabi Games was held at the Pannónia Golf & Country Club near Budapest between 31st July and 2nd August.
I assume Pannónia Golf & Country Club was selected at least for three reasons:
- Proximity to Budapest (cca. 40 km),
- Experience in holding international golf tournaments.
- Challenging, but not too difficult.

It was really interesting to discover that 79 (3.43%; from 12 countries) out of the cca. 2300 participants of the 15th European Maccabi Games were golfers.
15th European Maccabi Games – golf tournament – Results
There were three Hungarian winners:
- Dávid Rózsa – gold,
- 13-year-old Bence Somogyi – silver,
- Botond Zsoldos – bronze.
The absolute winner is Anthony Adams from the USA, the team competition was won by Canada.
The winner of the open female absolute category is Klára Nagy from Hungary.
Finally, I was really impressed by the organization of the golf tournament. Congratulations to everybody who were involved!
