How risky is sponsoring LIV Golf or any of its teams commercially? Despite significant effort and investment, LIV Golf has not yet met the owners’ expectations. What is your perspective on the situation?
In March, I shared that Stuburt, the British golf apparel brand, became the exclusive on-course apparel partner for three out of 13 teams: Torque GC, Fireballs GC, and Stinger GC.
Now, another enterprising company sees the potential in LIV Golf. Magellan Jets decided to sponsor the 4Aces GC team led by Dustin Johnson.
Dustin Johnson and Magellan Jets have formed a partnership designating the company as the “official private aviation provider” of Johnson and the team.
The partnership emerged as a natural progression of an existing association. Initially, a patron, Dustin Johnson, chose to proudly display the Magellan Jets logo on his polo at the recent Masters, well before the formalization of any agreement.
Magellan Jets’ client access represents a pivotal component of the agreement. Magellan Jets patrons, many of whom hold avid golfing affiliations across multiple clubs, are offered exclusive opportunities with the 4Aces.
4Aces and LIV Golf fans will witness the team members showcasing the Magellan Jets logo on their golf shirts at all LIV Golf and other professional golf events.
Magellan Jets‘ partnership with 4Aces GC represents the company’s ongoing professional golf and sports expansion.
Recently, Magellan Jets also became the Official Private Aviation Provider of the Boston Red Sox and appointed Todd Goldstein, a seasoned industry veteran, as Vice President of Sports and Entertainment to enhance its presence in this sector.
Meanwhile, the University of Alabama has filed an opposition to LIV’s 4Aces GC trademark application, arguing that
“The 4 Aces design contains the “same literal element” as Alabama’s, and the style of the letter “is visually similar to and creates a commercial impression similar to” the Alabama design.”
It is also related to this story that 4Aces GC‘s captain Dustin Johnson entered into a multi-year contract with LIV Golf valued at $125 million just five days before Mickelson ($200m) agreed in 2023.
He was among the pioneering elite golfers who transitioned to LIV Golf.
