Golf participation at Algarve continued to grow in the second quarter of 2015. More than half a million rounds played in the first half of this year. This is almost 35,000 more rounds than in the same period in 2014. The Algarve was considered by IAGTO as the Golf Destination of the year 2014.
The Algarve was also awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Value Golf Destination’ in the 2015 Today’s Golfer Travel Awards. I think we should also ask (even that we know how much The Algarve invested in its golf clubs) whether the profit increased as well. If yes then how much? Or how tee times’ and hotel rooms’ prices changed since 2014? The Algarve was able to attract more British golfers as the British Pound has strengthened almost 10% against the Euro in the first quarter of this year.
2014 was also a great year for Portugal tourism. The country was able to generate cca. €10 billion revenue from tourism (including golf tourism).
By the way, The Algarve will host again Europe’s disabled golf elite in the second European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) Algarve Open 2015 – where the winner of the 2015 EDGA Premier Series Order of Merit will be crowned – from November 17-22.
