Golf World magazine has recently announced its '100 Classic Golf Holes in the UK and Continental Europe'. The jury included top designers like Martin Hawtree (Trump International Golf Links) and David McLay Kidd, but also well-known golfers like Peter Alliss and Peter McEvoy (former Walker Cup captain).
Out of Tenerife's 9 golf courses only Golf del Sur golf club represented the island. Golf del Sur’s 211-yard (=193 meters) par-3 second hole was awarded to be on Golf World magazine’s latest list of its ‘100 Classic Golf Holes in the UK and Continental Europe.’
The golf holes were judged by:
- strategy and design,
- aesthetics and setting,
- memorability,
- conditioning,
- history and heritage,
- buzz factor.
Golf del Sur was designed by Pepe Gancedo and opened in 1987. Since then there were 2 major modification in 2005 and 2006 by Manuel Pinero. One of the changes was enhancing all the natural protected areas that surround the 27 holes.
Golf del Sur is also famous for frequently holding European Tour events.
