The 4th generation Cobra Golf KING Forged TEC Irons with 3 major improvements

By: April 18, 2022

When I first heard of the 4th generation Cobra Golf KING Forged TEC irons for some reason Wilson Staff Model CB irons and Wilson Staff D9 Forged irons came to my mind.

The new Cobra Golf KING Forged TEC irons feature 3 significant improvements including

  1. a 5-step forged body and face,
  2. a sleeker topline with reduced offset,
  3. and a lighter and softer foam for improved sound and feel. (do we really need it???)

Each iron in the set features a forged PWRSHELL Face to create maximum speed and high launch.  A 20g tungsten – just like in the new Wilson Staff Model CB Irons  toe weight centers the CG perfectly behind the sweet spot for pure feeling ball strikes with added stability on off-center hits.

The Forged TEC ONE Length irons

The Forged TEC ONE Length irons are configured with a constant, 7-iron length setup.  Having every iron the same length promotes one repeatable setup, posture, and swing for more consistency.

It seems to me that golfers did not “buy” the one-length concept.

The Forged TEC X irons

The KING Forged TEC X is the Forged Tec’s more forgiving counterpart that is designed for mid to higher handicaps and paves the way for a new category of player’s “game-improvement” irons.

The iron features a lower CG design, lower profile, a slightly thicker topline, and stronger lofts than the KING Forged TEC irons.

The Tec X also features a hollow body and foam insert but utilizes a massive 65g tungsten weight (45g more than Tec) to lower CG and maximize stability for higher launch despite the stronger lofts.

I miss the usage of 8620 carbon steel which is famous for its high strength case toughness and above-average core toughness. E.g. like in the Wilson Staff D9 forged irons, TaylorMade P790 irons, etc. For me, this is more important than the sound….

My verdict

The material and technology innovations in the Wilson Staff irons – I mentioned above – are more convincing. Wilson Staff’s Power Holes innovation is really cool. By the way, I am playing with Wilson Staff D9 clubs.

I miss the usage of 8620 carbon steel which is famous for its high strength case toughness and above-average core toughness. E.g. like in the Wilson Staff D9 forged irons, TaylorMade P790 irons, etc. For me, this is more important than the sound….

At the same time, it is very good that Cobra Golf is giving free Arccos Smart Sensors if you buy any of their clubs.
